I’ve written about this before, and unfortunately, those plans never came to fruition. But things are a lot different now than they were two years ago the last time I tried. Since then, I’ve learned a lot about myself through therapy. I was in groups for a little over a year, and I’ve learned that I’m on the autism spectrum, have ADHD, and have BPD. While I’m still learning about all of this, just knowing has helped me figure out what areas of my life I need to target to get where I want to be.
I’m in my second month of taking Wellbutrin to help with the ADHD, and there have been some good days. There have been days where I’ve really been able to lock in and get things done, like organizing files or cleaning around the house.
I’ve started journaling again. I’m not at the point where I’m doing it every day, but I definitely find myself turning to it during tougher moments. Given the suggestions Apple’s Journal app offers, it’s sometimes fun to look through the recommendations, pick one, and write a little bit about it.
I really want to get back to creating and learning, so I decided (for purely geeky reasons) to learn Japanese. I’ve been using an app on my iPhone called Renshuu that I’m really enjoying. I don’t know how long it will take to get to the point where I can sit down and play a game in Japanese, but just learning it feels good. I’m also working on beatmaking, learning how to write raps, and playing the piano. I’m finding ways to be musical, even though I know I don’t have a good singing voice.
When I was a kid, I loved to draw, loved getting “how to draw” books, and tried hard to draw the characters I loved. I never knew how to push through the rougher moments, so I never got really good at it. But between Procreate and a stack of art supplies I picked up at Michaels, I’ve been trying to improve. I’ve been sketching, inking, and doing watercolors; I have alcohol markers and colored pencils, and of course I do plenty on my iPad as well. As I’m writing this, I’m working on a piece of Sora from Kingdom Hearts that I’ll share here in the coming days when it’s done.
I know one of the things I really need to do to keep my creative muscles going is actually use them. That’s why I changed up the look of the site, and why I changed the tagline from “Let’s Talk About Tech” to “Est. 1992.” I’m getting this site back to what it was always supposed to be: a place where I can write about all the different things that interest me. The Apple content isn’t going away—they make some of my favorite devices, and they’re an integral part of my life. But I also want to use this space to share my art, my music, thoughts on a film trailer, what I’m reading, or even just a quote. Whatever I want to share, this will be the home for it.
I’m still hoping to get into streaming, and I plan to start streaming Fortnite soon. The new season is fantastic, and Fortnitemares started today, bringing Freddy Krueger into the game. I’m ecstatic. I’m also hoping to get back into making videos when my energy and mental focus allow, but right now my primary creative energy is going into content on this site. Anything else will be an extension of that.
The last thing I should mention is not to expect new posts over on ThatJerseyGamer. For now, it will remain there for archival purposes, but any new gaming content I write will be posted here.
It’s nice to meet you again, and thank you for coming with me on this journey.
