iPhone Pre-order Update

Hey all, it’s been a while since I’ve written here, life’s still crazy but I’m still starting to get back into some kind of swing of things. I’ve been working a part time job with a team that I really enjoy and one day I know I’m going to be back where I was before I lost my previous job.

But today is iPhone 15 pre-order day and I’d remiss if I didn’t share my iPhone pre-order update, since I did in fact pre-order a device.

The last time I got a new iPhone was when the 12 Pro came out, so I’ve spent a few Apple events sitting on the sidelines. With my battery starting to go (it could use service but it’s still alright as long as i remember to charge when I’m driving throughout the day) I figured now was as good of a time as any to upgrade.

I’ll admit, in the hours following the reveal of the iPhone 15 family of devices I was seriously tempted to get a standard device this time around. My biggest pain point with my 12 Pro up to this point has been the storage. I had the 128 GB model that had about 20 gigs free after I installed the iOS 17 RC build from the public beta channel. This left over storage wasn’t because I don’t need more storage, though. It was because I would periodically purge apps and files (and had iOS set to offload unused apps). With that in mind, I knew that whatever device I went with I was going to need to double the storage, if not triple it.

Considering Apple’s new business model is to put the previous generation Pro chip into the standard devices (combined with some camera improvements that should make it fairly comparable to what I have now) I was really planning on with getting an iPhone 15 (or possibly a 15 Plus for a little extra battery). But there were two things that I still couldn’t shake from my mind…

The first was the action button. It’s no secret that I’m a huge shortcuts fan and the fact that the action button can be set to run a shortcut is a really intriguing proposition. The other is the graphics performance of the 15 Pro. I’m a huge gamer and the fact that the chip in this phone is apparently powerful enough to run games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil 4 Remake is huge news. I’m actually really hopeful that the core gaming scene on iPhone 15 Pro will continue to grow as more developers see what they can do with the device. We could actually be entering an era of even more powerful console games coming to mobile devices and that’s a boat that I really want to be on (as opposed to waiting another 2 to 3 years before I get to try that out).

With all that in mind, I finally settled on getting an iPhone 15 Pro, 512 GB, in Titanium Blue. Right at 8 AM I was working on getting in to finish my pre-order (I’d previously saved my device choice and handled the carrier paperwork on my lunch break yesterday). Waking up a little early today paid off as I was able to secure a day one device! Hopefully it won’t get pushed back and I’ll be able to set my new device up when I get home from work next Friday.

Now beings the longest week of my life while I wait for my new toy to arrive!

Did you upgrade your iPhone this year? What model in the 15 family did you go with? Let me know down in the comments below!
