At Least One of My WWDC Wishes Was Fulfilled

I didn’t get my WWDC 2022 wishlist posted this year due to a variety of factors, but I did actually work on one briefly. One of my biggest wishes in my draft was for Apple to update the Notes app, along with its accompanying Shortcuts actions. While Notes did get some new features this (though nothing close to the redesign a lot of us were hoping for), they did at least update one thing that I wanted to see get some attention.

As an avid Shortcuts user, it has always driven me nuts that the Notes action for Shortcuts didn’t support importing rich text. With iOS 16, it looks like Apple has updated that. This information came across my desk when I saw this tweet from Mac Stories Founder and Editor-in-Cheif, Federico Viticci:

Personally, I have a few shortcuts that I’d like to play around with making once I get the public beta installed. Most of them are based around templates and while the Notes action currently has no problem putting in text with line breaks (something pasting directly into the app can’t handle), it defeats the purpose of generating a template from a shortcut if it can’t handle bolding, italicizing, and (ideally) header sizes. It looks like when iOS 16 releases later this year, all of that is going to change for the better.
