Tomorrow Apple Has to Show Us ‘One More Thing’

I always love the day before (and the morning of) a new Apple event. Then excitement in the community is palpable and the mind can run wild about what the company might show off. As we get ready for tomorrow’s event, entitled One More Thing, we have a pretty good idea of what the company is set to show off. Earlier this year at WWDC, the company announced that by the end of the year they would be releasing their first Macs that are powered by their in-house processors.

I’m really excited to see what Tim Cook and company have in-store.

When this was first officially unveiled, the thing that got me most excited is the fact that these Macs will be able to natively run iOS and iPad OS apps, right alongside your existing Mac software. I’m a big podcast listener and my player of choice is Overcast. I’ve never been a fan of the online player so this silicon transition will be worth it for me just for the ability to continue to listen to my podcasts in Overcast — even when I’m working on my Mac. (That is, of course, assuming Marco Arment doesn’t decided to disable the functionality, as a few developers have already done. Facebook’s on the list — What a surprise.)

In all honesty, we don’t know exactly what these new Macs are going to be like yet. Nor do we know exactly how the transition is going to go. What we do know is that Apple has been making the chips inside of their iPhones and iPads for a number of years and the performance those chips give is great when paired with the company’s software. That makes me curious to see how Apple will present this and how it will all go down. Needless to say, I’ll be watching the stream as it airs and I look forward to sharing my thoughts.
