My iPhone 12 Pro Has Been Preordered

Friday was iPhone 12 preorder day and I didn’t want to miss out on the fun.

Being a Sprint customer (now a part of T-Mobile), I had the luxury of getting a “Priority Status” preorder. In the days leading up to preorders going live, I was pretty sure that I would be getting a 128 GB iPhone 12. I had chosen red as my color option for the time being. The more I’ve researched the two devices, the more unsure I became.

When I finally got around to finishing my preordered preorder (that’s what I’m calling it now), I made the decision to switch to the Graphite 128 GB iPhone 12 Pro. I’m boring, I know. There were a few things that made that decision easier, though. The biggest? The financing to own on the device wasn’t 24 months as I had expected, but rather 30 months. That was a pleasant surprise.

I’m glad I decided to go with the Pro for a few reasons. One is that more camera lenses is never a bad thing. I do take a lot of photos with my iPhone, even if I don’t post all of them somewhere. I love messing around with photography, but not enough to invest in a proper DSLR camera. Mobile photography (or smartphoneography) has always been enough for me.

The other is the fact that the phone is made from stainless steel instead of aluminum. I know I said this when I got the iPhone 11 and it didn’t remain true, but I really mean it this time: I plan to hold onto this phone for a while. I figured that even though I’ll almost always have the phone in a case, the stainless steel is probably going to hold up better than the aluminum over time.

Now for the bad news: even with a priority status preorder, the 12 Pro is backordered. At first, I was told my phone would ship between October 24th and November 2nd. Then the date expanded to the 3rd. Now it says it will ship between November 2nd and November 10th, meaning that it will most likely arrive during my staycation from my day job. It might come on my birthday (the 5th) or it may show up when my Series X does (the 10th) or it may even come once I’m back to work.

I’m kinda bummed about that. Not because it puts extra time between me and my new iPhone (I am excited to get my father all set up with my iPhone 11) but because I was hoping to do an unboxing video. I haven’t done any video content in a while and I miss it. I wanted an excuse to buy LumaFusion and mess around with that a bit — but the timing just doesn’t work. If the shipping delay was a few days I could probably make it work, but now the delay is long enough that my content would most likely be buried by iPhone 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max content. I guess sometimes the universe likes to give you a heads up when you have a bad idea before you take action. 😔

Anyway, which iPhone 12 did all of you decide to get, or are you waiting for the Mini/Max models? Let’s talk about it down in the comments.
