Earlier today, Apple announced their next event. Set to stream online Tuesday October 13th at 10 AM PT, the event is expected to give Apple a chance to finally show off their new iPhone 12 family of devices. It’s no secret that the iPhones were delayed a few weeks due to the ongoing global pandemic, meaning that the September event that traditionally features the reveal of new iPhones was focused solely on the updates Apple had for both the Apple Watch and a few iPad models.
But now, with the words “Hi, Speed” front and center, Apple is getting ready to give us a look at what they’ve come up with for their smartphone lineup this year. And I’m really excited about that.

I’ll be the first to admit that I had no plans to buy an iPhone this year, regardless of what Apple showed. I switched back to using iPhones right before the pandemic got into full swing and had every intention of holding onto my iPhone 11 for the 24 months I had it financed (plus a few more after that, most likely).
Like Jeff Goldblum said in Jurassic Park, though, “Life finds a way.”
After years of work, I’ve finally convinced my father to trade up from the budget Android devices he’s always used, to an iPhone. The easiest way for me to do that is to pay off my iPhone 11 in one lump sum so that he can take over that device and financing one of this year’s models for myself. With this transition, I will have finally gotten both of my parents onto iPhones which I’m very happy about for a number of reasons that I’ll get into at a later date.
I don’t know what the iPhone 12s are going to look like yet in terms of features (though there have been plenty of rumors). My biggest hope is that the return of Touch ID on the iPad Air 2020 means that we’ll see an iPhone with both Face ID and Touch ID. In any other year, I probably wouldn’t have that wish, but with always having to wear a mask when I go out, the more biometric identification options Apple puts on the iPhone, the better.
As it stands, I’m leaning towards getting a standard iPhone 12 (not the rumored Mini or one of the Pro models) with 128GB of storage (though I may bump the storage up depending on how I feel). My biggest (unfounded) fear is that Apple will remove Face ID from the non-Pro models fo the device this year. I haven’t seen any rumors suggesting that this will be the case, but we’ll have to wait and see what Apple shows off next Tuesday.
In the meantime, what are you most hoping to see Apple show off with the iPhone 12 event? Sound off down in the comments below!
